Day 4 - Mary's Song

“My soul magnifies the Lord,

And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me,
And holy is His name.
And His mercy is on those who fear Him.”
Luke 1:46-47, 49-50

Mary ceases to amaze me. She told the angel who brought her the news that she would be the mother of the Son of God to let it be done to her according to His will. She traveled to visit with her older pregnant relative while she herself was with child. Now, she is singing a song of praise in the midst of all that is about to change her life.

But WOW, what an example. To be able to sing praises to God for all he has done and will do. In all circumstances.

We should live so that our souls magnify the Lord.

Our spirits should rejoice in God our Savior.

HE is MIGHTY and has done great things for us.

HOLY IS HIS NAME!

His mercy is on those of us who fear Him.

Those around us should never doubt our love for God. They should see it in all we do. When things are going great, we should give him praise. When things aren’t going as we had planned and our lives seem to be crumbling around us, we should praise God for the hope we have in Him and the promise that He will never leave nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).

So, what would our song sound like?

First off, you wouldn’t want to hear me sing! But I imagine mine might go something like this:

O, Lord Father, thank you. Thank you for loving me!
For loving the wretch that I am!
Your mercy, O, God, how GREAT it is!
That my soul is saved and eternally yours.
Thank you, Father, for the hope I have in you.
I can do anything because you are with me.
Never should I fear another because you have me in your hand.
I praise you that you will see me in my valley.
I praise you that you will lift me up.
I praise you that you sent for me a saving grace!

I LOVE YOU GOD. I LOVE YOU SO.

“This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will REJOICE and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24

  1. Natasha, That was a beautiful song. Thank you for sharing it. I think it's amazing that Mary had the reaction she did....I've always been amazed at her acceptance and faith and willingness to go where God was leading her.

Maybe I will write a song, too.

  2. I finally got my book! I'm finally on board :) Mary was faithful and was excited for the special gift which she was chosen for. Tho scared at first she was reassured by the angel things would work out. Even in those times an unwed mother was not excepted. She still rejoiced! I struggle with trying to deal with problems my way. I know I should rejoice that I have such a loving Lord that wants to take an carry my burden for me. Through the next 90 days I want to build my relationship with Jesus so I can let his plan lead me and not my own.

  3. I think my song would be a song of thanks. Not a day goes by that I am not thankful for our jobs, heat, house, health etc. Alot of times it is the little things that count. Mary had a big thing but she still chose to let God lead the way. Just another reason to show that God knew exactly what he was doing in His divine plan.

  5. Holly, you are exactly right. All too often we take the little things for granted. You know, we give our kids so much, it is important to teach them to give thanks for the small things in life. Sometimes when Colin gripes about something, I remind him that he has classmates that are not as fortunate as he is.

  6. It is so easy to get caught up in the rush of life, the stress of deadlines, and the frustration of having out-of-control kids, we do sometimes forget to celebrate our blessings. A couple of nights ago my son was screaming because he didn't think a consequence he was facing was fair. I considered beating him, as I found myself wondering where I had gone wrong with my kids. Other people make it look so easy to have kids that behave. What I had done to deserve this? Then, reality hit me. There are other mothers that would give anything for one more day with their child, arguing or not, just one more day together, even an hour. I particularly think about my friend Tracie whose daughter was killed in a car accident last year, my friend Ben's mom when he was hit by a car when he was five, the same age of my screaming, disrespectful son I had been complaining about. Similarly, when I start gripe about the requirements of my job, I remember to be thankful that I have a job. There are many others who would live to have this problem to complain about. These are humbling realizations that really put me in my place. Thanks be to God for all he gives us.
